This evocative program includes with a contemporary multimedia meditation, fusing stunning visual projections from Native artists with music by a citizen of the Chickasaw Nation dedicated to the development of American Indian classical composition. A century earlier, Ernest Bloch, the founding Director of the Cleveland Institute of Music, wrote his boldly original first Piano Quintet, which melds a gritty urban tone with moments of lyrical reflection. A piano trio by Mozart at his most witty and lighthearted opens the evening.
