Ravel’s blues-inflected duo, with its hint of Hungarian flavors, sets the stage for a clarinet quartet that “overflows with folksy and tender appeal” ( The namesake piece on tonight’s program, by Pulitzer Prize-winning Julia Wolfe, “[places] folk-like fragments into a kind of joyful hyper state.” A flirtatious Viennese aura permeates Dohnányi’s poignant piano quintet, bringing an elegant end to this vibrantly hued program.
