Teng Li, viola, was recently appointed principal violist of the Los Angeles Philharmonic by Music and Artistic Director Gustavo Dudamel, after more than a decade as principal with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. She has been featured as soloist with the National Chamber Orchestra, Santa Rosa Symphony, Munich Chamber Orchestra, Haddonfield Symphony, Shanghai Opera Orchestra, Canadian Sinfonietta, and Esprit Orchestra. She is Artistic Director of Morningside Music Bridge at the New England Conservatory. An active recitalist and chamber musician, she regularly participates in the festivals of Marlboro, Santa Fe, Mostly Mozart, Music from Angel Fire, Rome, Moritzburg, and Caramoor’s Rising Stars Festival. She has performed with the Guarneri Quartet and the 92nd Street Y Chamber Music Society, and was a member of Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center’s CMS Two. She is a member of the Rosamunde Quartet, which is led by Noah Bendix-Balgley, Concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Toronto-based Trio Arkel. Her recordings include 1939, featuring music of that turbulent time by Hindemith and others, with pianist Meng-Chieh Liu and violinist Benjamin Bowman; Vaughan Williams’s Flos Campi with the Toronto Symphony conducted by Peter Oundjian; a disc of French flute chamber music featuring the Mirage Quintet; and Belgian composer Guillaume Lekeu’s Piano Quartet, in which she joined the Trio Hochelaga.
