Jessica Sindell, flute, joined the Cleveland Orchestra as assistant principal flute, Austin B. and Ellen W. Chinn Endowed Chair, in 2018. A graduate of the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra, she had served as the solo piccolo player of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra for two years. She has appeared with the Houston Symphony and Fort Worth Symphony among other ensembles. She has performed at the Lake Tahoe Music Festival since 2012 and has been acting principal of the Mainly Mozart festival in San Diego and the Colorado Music Festival. As a chamber musician, she has performed in the Camera Lucida series in San Diego and in Portland’s Chamber Music Northwest festival. Ms. Sindell won her first orchestral audition at age twenty-two for principal flute of the Oregon Symphony Orchestra and performed there for two years during which she recorded two albums with the orchestra. A graduate of the Eastman School of Music, she was the recipient of consecutive fellowships at the Aspen Music Festival and school, and the Music Academy of the West. She performs on the Pentatone album Tippet Rise Opus 2017, arising from Montana’s Tippet Rise Arts Center, which includes music of Bach, Chopin, Aaron Jay Kernis, and John Luther Adams, and features Matt Haimovitz and Anne-Marie McDermott. She has also performed and recorded with the Pink Martini band.
