Mary Kausek, oboe, is the principal oboist of Citymusic Cleveland. She was the guest principal oboist for the Fort Worth Symphony and the Pittsburgh Opera, and has made guest appearances with the Cleveland Orchestra and Buffalo Philharmonic. She has worked with such notable conductors as Fabio Luisi, Ludovic Morlot, Andris Nelsons, Michael Stern, Stephan Deneve, Michael Tilson Thomas, and Charles Detoit. As proficient on english horn as she is on the oboe, she has performed as the solo english horn with the Pittsburgh Opera, Boston Symphony, Jalisco Philharmonia, and Fort Worth Symphony. Ms. Kausek performed across Japan with members of the Philadelphia Orchestra, Chicago Symphony, and Vienna Philharmonic as a member of the Pacific Music Festival Orchestra. She also performed with the Hollywood Film Music Orchestra in Nanjing, China, and the Jalisco Philharmonia on tour in Guadalajara, Mexico, and across the United States. As the Fernand Gillet Fellow at Tanglewood, she performed seven world premieres in celebration of its 75th year, including works by John Williams and Bright Sheng. Other summer engagements have included the National Repertory Orchestra and Breckenridge Music Festival Orchestra. She is a founding member of the Cleveland woodwind quintet, North Coast Winds, which in 2015 earned second place at the Yellow Springs Competition for Emerging Professional Ensembles. She holds degrees from the University of Texas at Austin and Cleveland Institute of Music.
