Dénes Várjon, piano, has performed with Camerata Salzburg, Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, Wiener Kammerorchester, Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra, Camerata Bern, Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, Hungarian State Symphony Orchestra, Tonhalle-Orchestra Zürich, Radio Symphony Orchestra Berlin, Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Bremen Philharmonic and Gidon Kremer’s Kremerata Baltica, among others. This season he performed with Jörg Widmann and Tabea Zimmermann at the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society and New York’s Zankel Hall. He is a regular guest at Salzburger Festspiele, Lucerne Festival, Schleswig-Holstein Musik-Festival, Biennale di Venezia, Marlboro Festival, Klavierfestival Ruhr, Kunstfest Weimar, and Edinburgh International Festival. Mr. Várjon works regularly with such partners as Steven Isserlis, Kim Kashkashian, Leonidas Kavakos, András Schiff, Heinz Holliger, Miklós Perényi, and Joshua Bell and performs frequently with his wife, Izabella Simon, playing four hands and two-piano recitals. He has been a frequent contributor to Schiff’s and Holliger’s Ittinger Pfingstkonzerte. Since 2018 he has been Principal Professor for the Kronberg Academy Study Programs. His many recordings include a solo album of Schumann piano works; albums of solo works by Berg, Janacek and Liszt, and Ravel, Schumann and Bartók; and Kodály’s complete works for cello. With his wife, he recorded The Great Fugue, including works by Schumann, Schubert, Mozart, and Beethoven’s four-hand transcription of the finale of his Opus 130 String Quartet.
