A native of Thessaloniki, Russian-Greek cellist Timotheos Petrin has performed as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral musician across Europe, Asia and North America. He recently won the Astral Artists’ 2015 National Auditions (USA).
He made his debut performance with the Kansas City Symphony Orchestra in 2016 conducted by Robert Spano. He also performed with the Athens State Symphony Orchestra, the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra, and the Greek-Turkish Youth Orchestra.
Mr.Petrin entered the Curtis Institute of Music (Philadelphia, USA) in 2012. He is enrolled in the Bachelor of Music degree program and studies with Carter Brey, principal cellist of the New York Philharmonic and renowned musician Peter Wiley, Guarneri Quartet cellist.
He also had lessons and master classes with Leonidas Kavakos, Gary Hoffman, Franz Helmerson, Maria Kliegel, Colin Carr and Dimitris Patras.
In Fall 2014 he made appearances at the Kumho Art Hall (Seoul, Korea). Taipei National University of the Arts (Taiwan), Lee Hysan Concert Hall (Hong-Kong) and Hochschule fur Music Carl Maria von Weber (Dresden, Germany) as part of the “Curtis on Tour” initiative in Asia and Europe.
An avid chamber musician, he gives concerts often in collaboration with important musical figures and ensembles such as the Eighth Blackbird Ensemble, the PRISM saxophone quartet, Roberto Diaz, Steven Tenenbom, Meng-Chieh Liu, Ignat Solzhenitsyn.
He was appointed principal cellist of the Curtis Symphony Orchestra for the 2014-2015 season and was a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO) from 2010 to 2013.
Mr.Petrin attended music festivals such as the Euro Arts Festival (Leipzig), the Moritzburg Festival Academy and he will also be collaborator at the Lake Como International Piano Summer School 2016 (Italy).
