- Shostakovich Trio for Piano and Strings in E minor No. 2, Op. 67
- Tan Dun Ghost Opera with GroundWorks DanceTheater.
WORLD PREMIERE DANCE!
Composer Tan Dun calls his Ghost Opera (for string quartet and chinese pipa, with water, metal, stone and paper) a reflection on human spirituality, too often buried in today’s distractions of advancing technology and urban bombardment. In a ground-breaking world premiere performance, David Shimotakahara and his innovative GroundWorks DanceTheater choreograph the work for the first time. A series of percussion trios and Shostakovich’s eerily thrilling piano trio, round out this magical and haunting exploration of humanity’s past, present and future.
PRELUDE & POSTLUDE 7:15pm
David Shimotakahara, GroundWorks Dance Theater Artistic Director, discusses his world premiere choreography. Following the concert join the musicians and dancers for a lively Q&A.
Dancers: Felise Bagley, Noelle Cotler, Damien Highfield, Gary Lenington, Annika Sheaff
